C. 3. 25168 [May 27.] TRECT Shard LUL 07

Question asked in the House of Commons, May 27, 1907.

Sir Henry Cotton,-To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any despatch has been sent to the Government of China in reply to the proposals presented to the British Government on the 29th November, 1906, regarding the traffic of Indian opium to China, and, if so, whether papers on the subject will now be laid upon the table.

Answered by Mr. Churchill (for Sir Edward Grey).

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The views of the Government of India are still under consideration, but His Majesty's Government hope to be in a position very shortly to reply respecting the proposals of the Chinese Government.
